Reaction to remove mercaptans from hydrocarbon is always speed up by sweetening catalyst, the phthalocyanine of cobalt. This "mercaptan oxidation reaction" uses a solution of phthalocyanine of cobalt sulfonated or liquid catalyst supported on activated carbon (phthalocyanine of cobalt impregnated on charcoal) in presence of oxygen.

Chemical expert in phthalocyanine, Mr Delmas developed a catalyst for mercaptan oxidation unit. His chemical expertise gives to Europhtal fundamental knowledge in catalyst properties, reactivity, use and fabrication.

As a first step Europhtal catalysts were qualified by IFP (French Institute of Petroleum) to be used in sweetening unit for LPG, gasoline, Kerosene.

To control efficiency of desulphurization catalyst we control all critical manufacturing steps as:

  • selective synthesis of catalyst and optimum formulation for it application.
  • selection of right activated carbon support for reliable impregnation

All those critical steps are controlled in our factory in France

Based on our expertise, we provide you with technical support in order to

  • optimise catalyst consumption
  • improve reaction parameters
  • monitor sweetening efficiency

Europhtal catalyst has been widely used in numerous refineries worldwide.
